 Rosanna Bossom

Rosanna Bossom’s West London home is a masterclass in layered living — colourful yet calm, refined but relaxed, and above all, personal. Every piece in the house tells a story, and the one we helped create sits proudly at the centre of her contemporary kitchen: a sculptural oak dining table, designed to anchor the space while allowing it to breathe.

“Home is a sense of grounding... It has different faces. It can be ten different people,” Rosanna says — and her kitchen embodies exactly that. A serene, light-filled extension with honed marble, warm joinery, and an open flow to the garden, it’s a space designed for both stillness and celebration. Rosanna came to us with a few initial sketches and a clear vision for the table: something elegant, architectural, and tactile. A table to gather around, to live around.

A Starburst of Precision and Pattern

Crafted in solid oak, the table’s base is a faceted sculptural form — bold and grounded — while the top introduces a finer level of craftsmanship. Here, a starburst veneer lay-up brings movement and subtle drama, drawing the eye inward in a quiet moment of symmetry.

To create this effect, we began by precision-cutting individual oak veneer leaves, each one carefully selected for tone and grain to ensure harmony across the top. These veneers were then hand-laid in mirrored pairs, taped edge-to-edge to begin forming the radial pattern. This stage requires intense focus: each segment must align exactly, both in direction and spacing, to create the continuous, fanned geometry.

At the centre — the heart of the starburst — is a single perfect point where all veneer sheets meet. It's a moment of extreme precision. A fraction of misalignment here would throw the whole pattern off. Our craftspeople take particular pride in this detail; it’s the kind of joinery that demands patience, sharp tools, and a trained eye — the kind of work where hand and material are completely in sync.

Once the full pattern is laid and checked, it’s pressed and bonded to the tabletop substrate using high-pressure adhesives. The surface is then meticulously sanded, sealed, and finished to enhance the natural beauty and depth of the oak, while protecting the top for years of real use.

“I wanted the kitchen to be quite contemporary, almost like a blank canvas,” Rosanna explains, “so slowly I’ve been adding layers… Having a rug under the table, everything slightly softens what otherwise is quite a harsh space.”

This table plays a pivotal role in that layering — visually quiet but materially rich, balancing crisp architectural lines with the natural variation of timber.

A Relationship Built on Craft & Collaboration

It’s always a pleasure to collaborate with Rosanna — her creativity is instinctive, bold, and full of personality. She knows when to trust the process and when to push it further. As one of her trusted manufacturing partners, Make Bespoke Studio was brought on board to help translate her early sketches into something tangible, enduring, and deeply connected to the rest of her home.

Our shared values — craftsmanship, detail, longevity, and character — underpin the success of this piece, and we’re proud to have contributed to a space that feels so alive and welcoming.

Whether it’s dinner parties with friends, quiet moments with coffee, or weekend breakfasts with sunlight streaming through the glass — this table holds the rhythm of daily life. It’s more than furniture. It’s the kind of piece that becomes part of the home’s memory.

And we look forward to continuing the story — on future pieces, in future rooms — with Rosanna.
