Amenity & Members’ Club Joinery

Amenity spaces and members’ clubs carry much of the atmosphere in a project. They are where people linger – working, meeting, relaxing, eating and drinking – often across most of the day. Joinery is what quietly holds all of this together: reception points, bars, libraries, tea points, storage, screening and more.

At Make Bespoke Studio we design and deliver amenity and members’ club joinery for hotels, residential developments, co-working environments and standalone clubs – working closely with interior designers, architects, operators and branding teams.

The role of joinery in amenity and club spaces

In amenity floors and members’ clubs, joinery does a lot of quiet work. It defines zones, hides services, provides storage and gives people places to sit, work and gather without needing everything to be loose furniture.

·        anchoring key moments – welcome points, bars, coffee stations and libraries

·        organising circulation between lifts, terraces, lounges, work zones and spa areas

·        supporting a mix of uses across the day – from quiet working to evening events

·        embedding brand character through proportion, detail, material and light

We see amenity and members’ club joinery as a connected layer that ties together decisions made on Reception Desks & Lobby Joinery, Tea Points & Breakout Kitchenettes, Home Bars & Back Bars, Hospitality Bars & Back Counters, Spa & Wellness Joinery, Libraries & Bookcase Joinery and Media Walls & TV Joinery.

Types of amenity and members’ club spaces

Every project has its own mix of spaces, but a familiar set of amenity and club environments appears again and again. We adapt the joinery language to each while keeping a clear thread running through the scheme.

·        Residents’ lounges and libraries – Spaces for reading, working and informal meetings, often built around bookshelves, display joinery and a bar or tea point.

·        Co-working and flexible work zones – Areas that mix desks, booths and casual seating, supported by storage, tea points and small reception or host desks.

·        Members’ lounges and club rooms – Layered spaces for socialising, events and quieter one-to-ones, where joinery helps modulate mood across different corners of the club.

·        Games rooms, screening rooms and private cinemas – rooms where joinery supports AV, storage and acoustics, drawing heavily on Home Cinemas & Screening Rooms and Media Walls & TV Joinery.

·        Wellness, spa and poolside lounges – quiet, restorative spaces where joinery supports towels, products, refreshments and discrete storage, in line with Spa & Wellness Joinery.

·        Roof terraces and indoor–outdoor amenity – spaces where bars, kitchenettes and storage have to negotiate views, planting and weather exposure, often in dialogue with Home Bars & Back Bars and Hospitality Bars & Back Counters.

Key joinery elements within amenity and club floors

Amenity and members’ club projects combine many different pieces of joinery. We organise these into clear families so that spaces feel coherent rather than piecemeal.

·        Bars, back bars and refreshment points – from full bar counters to smaller tea points and coffee stations, coordinated with Home Bars & Back Bars, Hospitality Bars & Back Counters and Tea Points & Breakout Kitchenettes.

·        Libraries, display walls and storage – bookcases, vitrines, record walls and storage that give personality and help handle day-to-day clutter, drawing on Libraries & Bookcase Joinery and Fitted Storage & Alcove Units.

·        Reception, host and check-in points – desks and podiums that welcome residents and members, often lighter in tone than main reception but clearly related to Reception Desks & Lobby Joinery.

·        Booths, nooks and semi-enclosed seating – joinery that forms quieter pockets within open-plan spaces – sometimes integrating power, lighting and small tables, with layouts informed by Home Offices & Study Joinery and Media Walls & TV Joinery where AV is involved.

Operations, flexibility and storage

Amenity and club spaces need to work hard: hosting everyday use, private events and sometimes co-working. We plan joinery to be robust, flexible and easy to reset.

·        planning storage for furniture, linens, AV equipment and seasonal items close to where they are needed

·        designing joinery that can support both open, casual use and more formal events

·        integrating hidden services access and back-of-house routes so staff can work without disrupting guests

·        allowing for future adjustments in equipment, technology and programming without major rebuilding

Much of this thinking draws on experience from Hospitality Joinery, Bespoke Kitchens & Pantries and Hospitality Bars & Back Counters, adapted to the more mixed-use nature of amenity floors and clubs.

Integration with services and AV

Amenity and club joinery often carries a high density of services – power, data, AV, lighting control and sometimes HVAC and acoustic treatments. We integrate these early so that the technology disappears into the background.

·        planning cable routes, power and data within bars, booths, work tables and media walls

·        designing housings for speakers, screens and projectors as part of broader Media Walls & TV Joinery and Home Cinemas & Screening Rooms strategies.

·        providing discreet access to control equipment, racks and hubs without compromising the appearance of the joinery

These integrations are captured within our Bespoke Joinery technical drawings and coordinated with project MEP, IT and AV consultants.

Materials, tactility and atmosphere

Amenity and club spaces are often where a project’s character is most clearly expressed. Materials need to support that character while standing up to everyday use, events and cleaning.

We assemble palettes from our Materials library – timbers, veneers, lacquers, laminates, stones, composites, metals and specialist finishes – and align them with stylistic directions captured on Joinery Styles.

·        balancing more expressive feature elements with quieter, more background joinery

·        choosing finishes that age well in high-touch areas such as bar fronts, handrails and seating bays

·        coordinating materials with adjacent lobbies, guestrooms and spa areas so transitions feel natural

·        considering how materials behave under varied lighting – from daytime working light to evening club settings

Lighting and mood

Lighting and joinery work together to create different moods through the day. We design joinery to hold lighting in ways that feel integrated and adaptable.

·        integrating lighting to shelves, bars and niches to bring depth and warmth to walls

·        using concealed linear lighting to define datums and give legibility in low light

·        supporting flexible scenes – from brighter co-working modes to softer evening lounge settings

·        coordinating lighting with AV requirements in screening rooms and event spaces

Working with architecture and adjacencies

Amenity and club spaces often sit at the junction between lobbies, lifts, terraces and back-of-house areas. We use joinery to stitch these together.

·        aligning joinery heights and datum lines with surrounding panelling and doors, so that spaces feel related even when their functions differ

·        using full-height joinery to define thresholds between louder and quieter zones without always needing solid walls

·        tying amenity joinery into wider Wall Panelling & Architectural Joinery and Internal Doors & Screens strategies so that circulation, sightlines and zones feel intentional.

Where amenity floors connect directly to spa, pool or wellness areas, we often extend details from Spa & Wellness Joinery into adjacent lounges and waiting areas.

Our process for amenity and members’ club joinery

Our approach to amenity and members’ club joinery follows the same clear stages as our wider

Bespoke Joinery work, with particular emphasis on operations, flexibility and long-term character.

1. Brief & operational review We begin by understanding membership or resident profiles, programming, staffing, hours of operation and desired levels of privacy and buzz.

2. Plans, adjacencies and services review We review plans, sections, MEP and AV information – or visit site – to understand structure, services routes, adjacencies and key views.

3. Layout options and zoning We develop joinery-led layout options, testing the placement of bars, tea points, libraries, booths and host points in relation to circulation and outlook.

4. Detailed design & coordination We produce detailed joinery drawings showing construction, internal layouts, services integration and junctions with walls, ceilings and floors.

5. Materials, samples and mock-ups We prepare focused sample sets and, where helpful, support mock-ups of key areas, aligning them with adjacent scopes on Types of Joinery and ensuring consistency with wider Hospitality Joinery and Hotel Guestroom Joinery Packages where relevant.

6. Production & installation Amenity and members’ club joinery is manufactured through our network of workshops and installed in coordination with main contractors, services and AV teams, with careful setting out and on-site adjustments to suit real conditions.

Connecting amenity and club spaces into the wider scheme

Amenity floors and clubs rarely stand alone. They sit within a wider ecosystem of guestrooms, lobbies, F&B and wellness.

We make sure decisions taken here align with adjacent scopes such as Reception Desks & Lobby Joinery, Hotel Guestroom Joinery Packages, Tea Points & Breakout Kitchenettes, Home Bars & Back Bars, Hospitality Bars & Back Counters, Spa & Wellness Joinery, Libraries & Bookcase Joinery, Media Walls & TV Joinery and wider Hospitality Joinery packages. All of this is structured through Types of Joinery and the stylistic language captured on Joinery Styles.
